PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Touro University Nevada is a Jewish-sponsored, non-profit institution of higher education which offers program on the health sciences and education. The vision, mission and goals of Touro University Nevada speak to preparing leaders in healthcare who are prepared to serve the community thus increasing access to quality health services for the people in the community, the region, the state and beyond.

The Entry-level DPT will admit individuals seeking education to become a physical therapist. The three-year program is offered primarily on-campus in Henderson, Nevada.

The Entry-Level Doctor of Physical Therapy (ELDPT)is the degree program for those wishing to become a physical therapist. The Touro University Nevada ELDPT is a non-research intensive curriculum. We emphasise the clinical knowledge and skills as well as preparing students to use research for improving decision making. The ELDPT curriculum is presented using both traditional residential (70%) and on-line (30%) courses. The Plan of Study for the ELDPT consists of 126 credits taken over 9 terms (3 calendar years). A student is expected to take a full-time load of 12-15 credits each term.

The residential classes use multi-formats of lecture, discussion, collaborative groups, interactive laboratories, and web-enhanced modules. On-line courses use multiple media such as streamed video, PowerPoint presentations with audio narration, discussion boards, real-time messaging, student collaboration, and incorporation of multiple document formats such as word processing , pdf, HTML, MP3, and graphics. Clinical learning is coordinated with community agencies and affiliating clinical practice sites offering physical therapy services in a variety of healthcare and educational settings. Students are supervised in clinical learning settings by licensed physical therapists who hold adjunct faculty appointments to TUN.

Accreditation

Touro University Nevada has been approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities (WASC) to award the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. The Nevada Commission on Post-Secondary Education has also licensed Touro University Nevada to offer the DPT degree.
