PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

In the supplemental application you will have a choice to select one of the two programs we offered: the full time and part time entry-level programs.

The full time entry-level program

The full time entry- level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program is a campus based program located in the College of Allied Health and Nursing at Nova Southeastern University (NSU). The program is offered in 3 year full-time format and includes 40 weeks of full time clinical training. Student-learning experiences occur in a combination of traditional instruction, case based interactive learning, and clinical lab skills training. Faculty supervised TIER I clinical education training begins in the winter semester of year one. Students are admitted in the summer semester and graduates are awarded a D.P.T. degree upon satisfactory completion of all requirements.   In the entry-level DPT program at NSU, faculty and students are committed to active participation in the profession, in all areas of scholarship, in mentoring, and in serving all community populations, including the medically underserved and uninsured, through service learning and clinical education experiences.
There are many other benefits to attending NSU’s entry-level DPT program:

  • A fully accredited PT program
  • A low faculty to student ratio
  • A qualified and experienced PT faculty
  • A multicultural faculty
  • Modern, state-of-the-art, and technologically advanced facilities
  • A program located on a beautiful campus in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, Florida
  • An opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration

NSU is located on a beautiful 300-acre campus in Fort Lauderdale with a student body of more than 27,000 students. It is the largest independent institution of higher education in the Southeast, and it is the 6th largest independent institution nationally.

The part time entry-level program

The part time entry- level Doctor of Physical Therapy (a 4-year distance hybrid; DH-DPT) program will be located at the Tampa Student Education Center which is a Nova Southeastern University satellite location of the College of Allied Health and Nursing. The part-time program will serve as an alternative for those individual who desire to complete their physical therapy degree while continuing to work or for who are unwilling or unable to relocate to the Fort Lauderdale area.
The 4-year part time program will replace the existing five-year campus-based, part-time DPT program, and will require the approval of the Commission on the Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) because there will be a change in location (from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa) and a different delivery method (i.e. a combination of distance technology and campus-based delivery). However, the curriculum for the part-time entry-level DH-DPT program will be the same as the existing 3-year full-time entry-level DPT program (E-DPT), and similar to the E-DPT it will include 40 weeks of full time clinical training and faculty supervised TIER I clinical education training begins in the winter semester of year two.
