PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

NSU has 2 entry level DPT Programs: A traditional, campus-based 3-year DPT program offered on our Ft. Lauderdale FL campus; and a 4-year Hybrid DPT program offered on our Tampa FL campus. The total cost for both programs is the same. There are 2 separate supplemental applications: You can apply to one or both NSU programs with one supplemental application fee. Admission criteria and standards are the same for both NSU DPT Programs.

In the entry-level DPT programs at NSU, faculty and students are committed to active participation in the profession, in all areas of scholarship, in mentoring, and in serving all community populations, including the medically underserved and uninsured, through service learning and clinical education experiences.    Students are admitted in the summer semester and graduates are awarded a D.P.T. degree upon satisfactory completion of all requirements.   There are many other benefits to attending NSU’s entry-level DPT programs:

  • A fully accredited PT program
  • A low faculty to student ratio
  • A qualified and experienced PT faculty
  • A multicultural faculty
  • An opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Modern, state-of-the-art, and technologically advanced facilities
  • Located on 2 beautiful campuses in sunny Ft. Lauderdale, and Tampa Florida

Traditional Entry-Level DPT Program: Ft. Lauderdale
The traditional Entry- Level Doctor of Physical Therapy (EDPT) Program is a campus-based program located in the College of Allied Health and Nursing at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Ft. Lauderdale. The 3-year program includes 40 weeks of full time clinical training. Student-learning experiences occur in a combination of traditional instruction, case based interactive learning, and clinical lab skills training. Clinical education training begins in the winter semester of year one. Students are admitted in the summer semester and graduates are awarded a D.P.T. degree upon satisfactory completion of all requirements.

Hybrid Entry-Level DPT Program: Tampa
The Hybrid Entry- Level Doctor of Physical Therapy (HE-DPT) program is designed for energetic, mature individuals who seek a more flexible educational schedule for personal, financial, or geographic reasons.  Instruction is delivered both online and on-campus utilizing the same curriculum developed for Ft. Lauderdale; however classes are distributed over 4 years instead of 3. Each month, three weeks of interactive online instruction is followed by 4 (8-hour) days of on-campus institutes held Friday through Sunday, allowing students the flexibility to work if needed. Clinical education experiences begin at the start of the 2nd year by integrating actual patient experiences into lab classrooms. The 4th year of the program consists of full-time clinical education experiences selected close to the students’ home towns.

The on-campus institutes are held at our beautiful Tampa Student Education Center (SEC).  The Tampa SEC features the following:

  • Four distinct programs from NSU’s College of Allied Health and Nursing, including physical and occupational therapy, anesthesiology assistant and cardiovascular sonography. The SEC also has classes in business, education, and speech-language.
  • State-of-the-art classrooms, in-patient and out-patient labs, functional performance labs, a simulated apartment for ADL training, as well as student lounges, computer labs, and study areas.
  • Conveniently located near major airports and highways (I-4, I-75, and I-275) with easy access to St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Orlando, Gainesville, Sarasota, Ft. Meyers, and even southern Georgia. Students do not have to relocate to Tampa to enroll in this program; there are 4 hotels within walking distance of our campus.
  • Dynamic, experienced physical therapy faculty with recent clinical experience and intensive training for on-line education.
