PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

It is the mission and primary enterprise of the LSUHSC-Shreveport Program in Physical Therapy to educate thoughtful individuals who are competent, knowledgeable, and ethical professionals, dedicated to improving their community through provision of quality, evidence-based physical therapy services.  Our graduates demonstrate a commitment to the professional organization, to life long learning, and to the education of future physical therapists.  Our graduates are scientific clinicians, skilled in critical thinking and capable of integrating theory with clinical practice.

The nine individuals that make up our core faculty each provide unique contributions that collectively cover the program needs.  We have eight physical therapists on faculty, five of whom have greater than 20 years of clinical experience; each of those brings a unique facet of practice experience, from rehabilitation, acute, and out-patient settings and across several practice patterns, including musculoskeletal, integumentary, and neuromotor expertise.  We have five board-certified clinical specialists on our core faculty, representing specialization in Geriatric, Neurologic, Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and Wound Management.  This breadth of clinical expertise lends credibility to our teaching and directs our scholarly endeavors toward pertinent clinical questions that have the potential to affect the way physical therapy is practiced.      In addition to the clinical expertise on our faculty, all core faculty members have earned post-professional doctoral degrees.  Five faculty members have PhDs, representing expertise in education and curricular design, neuropharmacology, cellular biology and anatomy, biomedical engineering, and health studies.  Of the other doctorally prepared faculty members, one has a post-professional Doctorate in Health Sciences in a geriatric physical therapy track and the others have their clinical DPT.  One faculty member has a Master’s degree in Business Administration.  In addition, many clinical faculty add to our program through clinical teaching and adjunct appointments.

The program is housed in a contemporary building with rich academic, clinical, and research resources, which includes an eight-camera motion analysis laboratory and a multi-disciplinary clinical practice.  The School of Allied Health Professions is an integral part of a health sciences center with a level I trauma center.  Our students are exposed to clinical interaction with patients throughout the curriculum.  Prospective and current students may visit the SAHP Student Affairs website for an updated listing of tuition and fees.
