PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Since 1948, the Physical Therapy Program at the University of Colorado has established a tradition of excellence in educating physical therapy students and is committed to developing the next generation of leaders.  The physical therapy program is nationally ranked and fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).  The University of Colorado is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

As part of the School of Medicine, located on the only academic health sciences center campus in the Rocky Mountain Region, our program provides students an interprofessional learning environment uniquely designed to prepare them for their roles as future health care professionals.  The program is located in the Denver metropolitan area on the new state-of-the-art Anschutz Medical Campus which is home to the Schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, the College of Nursing, the Graduate School, several new hospitals, multiple laboratory facilities, and large health sciences library.

New students matriculate into the DPT Program in late May beginning their three year curriculum that covers three semesters each year.   Consistent with the program’s mission of preparing a “generalist” physical therapist, the clinical education component, which consists of 44 weeks of full-time clinical experiences, is designed to provide students with a variety of exposure to multiple practice settings and to a wide-ranging patient population through affiliations with hundreds of clinical sites.
