Additional information about program’s GRE requirements

The GRE General Test is being revised effective August, 2011. If you take the GRE between August 1 and November 1, your test scores will not be reported until mid- to late-November. The PT program urges applicants to take the GRE prior to August 1 or review of their admissions application could be delayed.

Applicants are required to complete 25 observation hours of outpatient physical-therapy and 25 hours of inpatient-acute care physical therapy. An acute care facility is defined as an inpatient physical therapy department of a hospital. Hours spent in a Rehabilitation Center, Rehabilitation Hospital, long-term care facility (skilled nursing facility), outpatient clinic or private practice will not be accepted for the required acute care hours. NO research observation hours will be considered in the 50 hours needed.

The UC Graduate School requires students enter with a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. The DPT program calculates this GPA by averaging an applicant's cumulative GPA from every institution where the applicant completed undergraduate coursework.

In addition, the program is looking for a minimum 3.0 GPA in the Science Prerequisite Coursework and the Non-Science Prerequisite Coursework.  The Science Prerequisite GPA is comprised of A&P, Biology, Chemistry and Physics coursework. The Non-Science Prerequisite GPA is comprised of English Composition, Psychology, Medical Terminology, Exercise Physiology and Statistics.

FOREIGN APPLICANTS AND TRANSCRIPTS

The program’s foreign (international) transcript policies do NOT apply to study abroad coursework that is itemized on a U.S. college or university transcript. Study abroad is processed in the same way as U.S. coursework.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Physical Therapy Program at the University of Cincinnati is characterized by the following criteria: 

  1. 100% ultimate pass rate with a first time pass rate of 97% (average of the past 3 graduating classes) which is above the national average of 85%. 
  2. A small class size of approximately 30 students allows for effective interactions with faculty. 
  3. Its affiliation with the UC Academic Health Center which has a high reputation for retaining health care professionals and providing leading-edge research and patient care. 
  4. High percentage of faculty with board certified clinical credentials. 
  5. Graduates are highly sought employees and many have multiple job offers prior to graduation.
