PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Bellarmine provides students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program with unique and challenging educational experiences and mentoring from outstanding faculty members.

Our faculty are not only academically prepared, they are also recognized for their clinical skills.  Of the ten full-time and four part-time faculty members, 13 are doctorally prepared.  Among them they hold board certifications in six clinical practice specialties and offer students a solid base of knowledge and preparation for their own future practice.

The Doctor of Physical Therapy requires clinical training for all students. Students will participate in four clinical experiences which integrate 1400 hours of training into the program.  The department has agreements with over 300 clinical facilities across the United States.  Students and faculty work together to develop an education plan for the clinical experiences.

Bellarmine provides students the opportunity to hone skills in the Service Learning Clinic which provides pro bono physical therapy to Bellarmine faculty, staff and students throughout the year.  Also, students in the professional program have the opportunity to travel for study abroad at Curtain University in Perth, Australia.

The Physical Therapy Department is currently considering extending the length of the DPT curriculum from 8 semesters to 9 semesters.  This will also increase the amount of clinical experience to approximately 1600 hours.
