PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Arkansas State University's Physical Therapy Department offers the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)in three year format with a new class starting every Fall Semester (August). Graduation occurs in May at the end of the third academic year. We take a student focused approached to physical therapist education and offer physical therapy education in a state of the art learning environment with a relatively small class size which affords significant student and teacher interaction. Basic science and clinical science courses are integrated each semester of our curriculum providing an education that is clinically focused from beginning to end. The majority of the clinical education experiences are in the summer semesters, however, some clinical education is integrated during the fall and spring semesters as well.
We have a well prepared, high energy faculty and tremendous resources on campus and in our community that provide a variety of unique learning opportunities for our students. Some of the unique resources we have on campus include:
- the Reynolds Center for Health Sciences Center -- a start of the art facility opened in August 2009; ASU PT has two research labs as well as space dedicated to practice and consultation;
- ASU PT Hippo Therapy Center, directed by Dr. Roy Aldridge, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy;
- the Beck PRIDE Center for Veterans Health that is clinically staffed by Becky Keith, Director of our PTA program;
- Clinical services are provided by physical therapy faculty and students on our campus;
- a comprehensive Speech and Hearing clinical facility staffed by the Department of Communication Disorders that offers interdisciplinary clinical and research opportunities for our faculty and students.
The Department of Physical Therapy is located in the College of Nursing and Health Professions at ASU. The interdisciplinary nature of our college affords our students and faculty many opportunities for interdisciplinary education and research.
